Small Fiber Neuropathy (SFN)

Small Fiber Neuropathy (SFN) involves damage to small nerve fibers responsible for sensory and autonomic signals, often linked to disturbances in Vata Dosha and the accumulation of toxins (Ama).

Small Fiber Neuropathy (SFN)

Pathophysiology in Ayurveda

  • Dosha Imbalance: SFN primarily manifests due to disturbed Vata Dosha, which governs nerve function and can lead to symptoms like pain, tingling, and numbness.
  • Ama (Toxins): Following initial nerve damage, toxins accumulate in nerve tissues (Majja Dhatu), impairing nerve conductivity and exacerbating symptoms.

Clinical Features:

  • Sensory Symptoms: Include burning pain, tingling, numbness, heightened sensitivity to touch or temperature changes.
  • Autonomic Symptoms: Abnormal sweating patterns, changes in skin color or temperature regulation, orthostatic intolerance, and gastrointestinal or bladder dysfunction.
  • Other Symptoms: Difficulty regulating body temperature, muscle weakness or cramps, worsened symptoms at night or with activity. Difficulty regulating body temperature, muscle weakness or cramps, worsened symptoms at night or with activity.

Ayurvedic Approach at esreveR Specialty Ayurveda Center:

  1. Diet and Lifestyle: Emphasize warm, nourishing foods; avoid cold and dry foods that aggravate Vata. Stay hydrated with warm herbal teas.
  2. Herbal Remedies: Ashwagandha for nerve strengthening, Brahmi for cognitive support, and Turmeric for inflammation.
  3. Therapeutic Practices: Abhyanga (Oil Massage) with soothing oils, and Shirodhara (forehead oil pouring) for relaxation and nerve healing.
  4. Detoxification: Panchakarma procedures to eliminate Ama and restore dosha balance.
  5. Yoga and Pranayama: Gentle yoga to improve circulation and flexibility, and breathing exercises to calm the mind and support nerve function.

At esreveR Specialty Ayurveda Center, we integrate Ayurvedic principles with specialized treatments to manage Small Fiber Neuropathy (SFN) effectively. By addressing underlying dosha imbalances and promoting nerve health through natural therapies, our approach aims to alleviate symptoms and improve the quality of life for individuals with SFN.
